FRANKENMUTH, Mich. (WNEM) – The Frankenmuth Credit Union (FCU) donated over $28,000 to charities in mid-Michigan to celebrate 60 years of serving its members and the community.

The FCU was founded on Dec. 12, 1964, and started out in a small room inside the Carling Brewery. Now it has grown into a credit union that serves 27 communities throughout mid-Michigan and operates 31 branches.

To celebrate the milestone, the credit union hosted the Frankenmuth and Saginaw County Chambers of Commerce at Uptown North Main on Thursday, Dec. 12. At the event, the FCU made donations to six mid-Michigan charities with the money raised at its annual Hope Tree Auction on Columbus Day.

FCU staff raised $28,048 and divided the funds among the CAN Council, Covenant Kids, Light the Night, Love for a Child, Underground Railroad, and Wellspring Lutheran Foundation Bethesda.
